Skimm'd over fried Oreos

  QUOTE OF THE DAY

"I am a gay man right now, just without the physical act" - Andrew Garfield, joking about how he prepped for a role as a gay man. The Internet was not amused.

SO FLY LIKE A G20

The Story

This weekend, world leaders are catching up over bratwurst at the G20 in Germany.

What's the G20?

It's the group of 19 countries plus the EU that make up around 80% of the global economy. Every year, they get together to talk about the little things like trade and climate change. This year, on the sidelines of the meeting, thousands of protesters have already been clashing with police.

So what's on the agenda?

A lot. Here are the big ticket things to watch for...

Trump-Putin meeting...as in their first one-on-one date since the presidential election. The one that US intelligence officials say Russia meddled with, in part to help Trump win. Yesterday, Trump had some tough words for Moscow, saying it needs to quit its "destabilizing activities" in places like Ukraine and Syria. It's anyone's guess how this turns out.

Free trade deals...as in the kind Trump says weaken the US economy. Putting him opposite major US allies, including Germany, France, and Japan - which favor free trade. Yesterday, Japan and the EU said 'we don't need you' and shook on one of the world's largest trade deals.

China-India meeting...as in the one that isn't happening. For decades, China and India have been fighting over land straddling their borders. Last month, Chinese troops rolled in to part of this land. So India sent troops in to check it out. Commence stare down. Chinese President Xi and Indian Prime Minister Modi won't be meeting this weekend since the "atmosphere is not right."

This is Trump's first G20 rodeo as prez. So far in office, his greatest hits have included major shakeups to foreign policy like pulling out of the Paris climate deal, and not voicing support for NATO. So this could get interesting.

REPEAT AFTER ME...

What to say when the couch you ordered shows up in the wrong color...

Refund please. Yesterday, more than a dozen states sued Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and the Education Department. The states say the dept broke the law by pushing pause on a rule that's supposed to forgive student loan debt for people who went to shady for-profit colleges. For years, for-profit schools have had a not-so-great reputation for things like deceptive marketing tactics and poor job prospects for grads. A couple major schools (like Corinthian Colleges) have been forced to shut down, leaving tens of thousands of students with tons of loan debt and no degree. The Obama administration adopted a rule that would forgive that debt. It was supposed to go into effect last weekend. But last month, DeVos delayed it, saying the feds needed to take a second look. Now, a bunch of states are saying 'not ok.' In other drama making its way through DC, yesterday, the director of the Office of Government Ethics handed in his two-weeks notice. That's the office that's been giving the Trump administration's business ties a lot of side eye for potential conflicts of interest. The office's director is saying 'time for a new job.' So Trump's looking over resumes.

What people are talking about...

The opioid crisis. Yesterday, the CDC said doctors have been prescribing fewer opioids (like hydrocodone and OxyContin) in recent years. That's the good news. The bad news: prescriptions have still tripled since the late '90s. For years, the number of Americans addicted to opioids has skyrocketed. And tens of thousands of people have died from overdoses. In the past year, the crisis has gained a lot more national attention since local police started sharing graphic photos of people who'd overdosed. States like West Virginia and Ohio are among the hardest hit by the crisis. Especially in lower income areas where more people suffer from diseases like diabetes and arthritis. The feds and state governments have been trying to address the crisis by issuing stricter prescription guidelines and limiting how many pills doctors can prescribe. Now it looks like some of that may be working. But CDC officials say 'still not enough' - docs need to do more to make sure they're not unnecessarily prescribing these sorts of drugs.

What to say to your friend who's always looking for a good deal...

Check out this one. Yesterday, QVC's parent company said it's buying the Home Shopping Network for more than $2 billion. QVC's the channel you know from "Joy" with JLaw. And longtime rival, HSN, is where the IRL Joy Mangano now sells her products. Not awkward at all. But apparently no one buys crockpots and statement jewelry off of TV anymore (hello, Amazon). And sales at both QVC and HSN have been on a downward slide, especially in the past year. Execs say tackling the shopping world together will help them both turn business around. QVC's parent company already has a minority stake in HSN. This deal means it's getting the whole thing. Call now and get a second shopping network for free.

What to say when your mom asks what it means to 'snort chocolate'...

Just stop.
