New User Experience Guide for Displaying Accessibility Metadata The Publishing Community Group at W3C have announced the release of the new user experience guide for accessibility metadata, a user-friendly document which proposes a shared framework for presenting publication accessibility metadata. Avneesh Singh from DAISY led the accessibility task force for developing these guidelines which are divided into 2 parts: Techniques and Principles, giving practical examples and clear advice for anyone wanting to use accessibility metadata within their content. DAISY Information Sharing Day On October 14th we will be hosting a special Information Sharing Day to impart some of the latest developments in three unique areas: - DAISY Project Updates: highlighting some of the innovative international projects which the DAISY Consortium leads or contributes towards, including developments on tools, accessible reading solutions, COVID response and collaboration network building.
- Member Updates: this session will bring together activities by DAISY Consortium Member organizations globally to share innovative developments and learning points with the wider community. This will include braille, smart speaker and artificial intelligence innovations, and implementing DAISY reading services on the journey to Marrakesh.
- Accessible Publishing Updates: providing updates on the latest developments as the DAISY Consortium and its members drive the global movement towards a new era of born accessible publishing. Topics will include the latest technical developments, mapping standards to legislation and the all-important issue of accessibility metadata.

DAISY Webinars The DAISY Webinar series on accessible publishing and reading has been a real positive to come out of the global challenges of the last year, and we're delighted that a new season of these free webinars has begun. We will be holding webinars on alternate Wednesdays through to December. Our first webinar last week covered the introductory topic of Ways People with Print Disabilities Read and will be followed on October 6th with EPUB Accessibility 101 and Creating and Reading Accessible Math on October 20, with further webinars announced soon. WIPO ABC International Excellence Award 2021: Finalists Announced The shortlist for the 2021 ABC International Excellence Award for Accessible Publishing has been announced, with the winners due to be unveiled at the Frankfurt Book Fair on October 20. Our congratulations to everyone shortlisted for their incredible work to progress accessibility in specialist and mainstream publishing. The awards ceremony will be available to watch live via the book fair website. |

Quick Links Articles and resources: Recent tool updates: - WordToEPUB - update 1.0.7 was released in August adding support for charts and other shapes, embedded audio and video, landmarks, ruby annotations, vertical writing support and Japanese localization. WordToEPUB now also integrates into both Microsoft Word and LibreOffice Writer.
- Many of our other tools have received minor updates to resolve bugs and work towards scheduled development goals.
