Daredevil run entries are up for grabs and men and boys all over the country will be participating on the 30th September 2022. This annual event features men and boys, dressed only in purple speedos, running through the streets of Johannesburg during rush hour. The event has not only raised many an eyebrow over the past 12 years but has also played an enormous role in raising awareness about testicular and prostate cancers. ENTER NOW AND GET YOUR GEARWhy would you do it?The survival rate in men whose prostate cancer is detected early is 95% In younger men at risk of testicular cancer, the survival rate with early diagnosis can be as high as 100%. Education, awareness and early diagnosis is key. Daredevil run is all about getting tongues wagging on prostate and testicular cancer awareness so that fewer men die. Who can participate?Running and sports clubs, gyms, schools, tertiary education facilities, corporates, previous participates and new participants are being urged to get behind what is being termed a ‘feel good through doing good’ national event. Men of all shapes, sizes, ages and fitness levels are urged to get out of their comfort zones, celebrate their man bits and raise money by running cancer outta their hoods, all while having a lot of fun. CANSA screening done at Daredevil Run 20 015 tests done CANSA ScreeningProstate Specific Antigen (PSA) TestProstate Specific Antigen (PSA) is a protein produced by both cancerous (malignant) and non-cancerous (benign) prostate tissue. High PSA levels may indicate inflammation of the prostate or even cancer. A blood test can establish if PSA levels are raised. PSA tests are available at most CANSA Care Centres across the country and via the Hollard MANVan. PSA testing is also available at public health care centres. Testicular Self-ExaminationCANSA encourages young men to start testicular self-examinations soon after puberty. Men from the age 15 to 49 years also need to examine their testicles each month, preferably after a bath or shower, to feel for any pea-sized lumps that could indicate testicular cancer.
