Mastodon nears 2M active monthly users

Mastodon, which positions itself as an alternative to X (formerly Twitter), gained 486,000 new users in 2022 with 1.8 million monthly active users. The nonprofit plans to make its interface more user-friendly and establish a U.S. branch to help build on last year's 1,614% increase in donors.

Netflix is taking a page from Disney's playbook and increasing its investments in merchandise related to popular shows to increase fan engagement and keep viewers talking about shows in between seasons. Netflix has historically waited until a show proves popular and then licensed merchandising rights to other companies, but is now accelerating in-house merchandise production while also creating fan experiences related to fan favorites.

UBS Group AG is calling for real estate investors to commit more of their assets to sustainability-focused improvements of older buildings in what it has referred to as a "retrofit revolution." Property owners sometimes prefer to demolish old structures and build new ones, but retrofitting "can improve rental yields, add value to buildings over time and safeguard them against becoming stranded assets," according to Michael Baldinger, chief sustainability officer at UBS.
