Dating Advice for People With Ulcerative Colitis

It takes a resilient person to manage ulcerative colitis, but if you ask Brooke Bogdan, it can take an even more resilient person to love someone who has ulcerative colitis. Bogdan has been managing the condition for years — and she’s learned a few dating lessons along the way. Here’s some of her hard-won relationship advice:

Plan the first few dates yourself. When you pick the restaurant, you’ll know where the bathrooms are, what’s on the menu, and where you can stash a bag of emergency supplies.

Know your limitations. If you tend to be in pain in the morning (or need to take frequent trips to the bathroom), don’t spend the night elsewhere until you feel comfortable doing so.
