Good morning and welcome to the July 26, 2023 edition of the Saints Insider newsletter. Hope you brought your sunscreen, a highlighter and your roster. And they're off! Before we get started, let us rejoice: The dog days of summer where football does not grace our social media feeds. inboxes and TV screens are kaput. Don't pay attention to what that weather forecast says, because it's basically fall. It's science. The Saints were back on the gridiron for the first day of 2023 training camp Wednesday. Sure, it was a light practice, they were not wearing pads and the whole thing was over before noon, but that doesn't mean there weren't things to take away. I emptied out my notebook for you here with all my thoughts and observations, but it all starts with this: Every man was present. That's a big deal in Saints land. And, hey, if you're more of a visual learner, we'll be posting stuff like this at the end of each practice to recap what happened. If you like these videos, feel free to subscribe to our YouTube channel here. Hello, JimmyNo, for real. Jimmy Graham really did sign with the Saints, and he really was back out there at practice in his No. 80 uniform. Seriously, check him out. Check out first day of training camp through the lens of our photographer, David Grunfeld, and while you're at it, check out all the people who held on to their suddenly-no-longer-vintage Jimmy Graham gear. Crystal ball seasonColumnist Jeff Duncan, a.k.a. NostraDuncan, did not even need to see one snap of Saints practice before he put out his first 53-man roster projection. Do me a favor: Comb through Jeff's projections, then let him know exactly where he went wrong via his Twitter or his email (jduncan@theadvocate.com). Be specific, and let him know I sent you. If you want to tell him he was spot on ... well, where's the fun in that? Wind sprint kingWhy, you might ask, was Dennis Allen running gassers with his players at the end of Wednesday's practice? And I would tell you the better question might be which of the highly-paid players did he apparently beat in a race? (Jury's still out on that one, unfortunately). As always, we'll have more coverage and analysis at NOLA.com throughout the week as the Saints hit the practice field for training camp 2023. Cheers, Luke Johnson |
