Daylight Talk by Jan Gehl

The 2024 Daylight Talk series continues with Jan Gehl, architect, professor and consultant on urban design. Jan Gehl will give the Daylight Talk titled ‘”On Daylight” Housing and Urban Planning’ in collaboration with The Royal Danish Academy. 

During this lecture, Jan Gehl will discuss "Cities for People" - his book available in 39 languages - that describes why looking after people is crucial for livability, sustainability and health in the cities of  the 21st century.  

Natalie Mossin, Head of the Institute of Architecture and Technology at the Royal Danish Academy, will present the talk and moderate the Q&A session. 

About Jan Gehl

Jan Gehl, architect, professor, and consultant on urban design, has focused his career on improving the quality of urban life, by reorienting the design of the city towards the people in them. His books include “Life between Buildings” and “Cities for People”.  

Gehl Architects have carried out major city improvement projects in Copenhagen, Melbourne, Sydney, London and New York. Jan Gehl has been awarded the UIA Patrick Abercrombie Prize for Urban Planning and Design, as well as the key to the City of Sydney. He holds honorary  doctorates from the universities of Edinburgh, Toronto, Varna and Halifax and is honorary fellow of the Architectural Institutes of Denmark, the UK (RIBA), the USA, Canada, Scotland and Ireland, as well as the Planning Institutes of Australia and Ireland. 

Daylight Talks is a series of free, online video lectures curated by Daylight and Architecture and organised in partnership with prominent architectural schools around the world. The talks present architects and educators that are working consciously with daylight in their projects or educational programmes.

‘Daylight Talks´ is organised by the VELUX Group in collaboration with individual schools of architecture and endorsed by the International Union of Architects (UIA) and the European Association for Architectural Education (EAAE).
