| | Gift of Jazz Presents A Tribute to Barney Kessel by Bruce Forman
Sunday, September 10 - 7:00PM
Guitarist Barney Kessel started making a name for himself in the 1940s when bebop was on the rise. Kessel's biggest influence was Charlie Christian, who modeled a unique single-note style that would leave room in the music for fantastic solos. After recording a track with Charlie Parker, Kessel later landed a spot with the Oscar Peterson Trio. He went on to record with our beloved Ray Brown, as well as many others. Kessel held Downbeat's "Guitarist of the Year" award until Wes Montgomery came on the scene in the 60s. Kessel left a huge footprint on the scene of jazz guitar.
