Gift of Jazz and the Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra are thrilled to present a centennial tribute to artist and composer Thad Jones. This program will also feature the East High Jazz Combo, as well as Keith Oxman (director of the East High Jazz Combo). Thad Jones had a stellar career as a trumpeter and composer throughout the 60s and 70s, winning a grammy for his work with Mel Lewis. Thad’s harmonically-rich charts are favorites of the Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra (MJO), a top-notch big band here in the Front Range. Join us for this important community concert to celebrate this great jazz legend!

Foster first caught the ear of Blue Note co-founder Francis Wolff when he made his first-ever recording as a sideman on jazz guitar legend Grant Green’s searingly funky Blue Note LP, Alive! in 1970. After Wolff passed away a few months later, Ronnie was officially signed to Blue Note by Dr. George Butler making him the next in an illustrious lineage of Hammond B3 organ artisans the label had presented which included the legendary Jimmy Smith, Larry Young, and Dr. Lonnie Smith.

Three Tenors honors tenor titans past and present with Pete Lewis' exciting arrangements of tunes composed by John Coltrane, Hank Mobley, Dexter Gordon, Sonny Stitt, Stanley Turrentine, Wayne Shorter, Joe Henderson and more!

When José James released No Beginning No End 2 (2020), a collaborative effort that paired the forward-looking vocalist with a global all-star cast including Ledisi, Aloe Blacc and Laura Mvula, it was apparent that the genre-defying artist was back to stake his claim as the jazz singer for the hip-hop generation. In that light his new project, On & On: José James Sings Badu finds James throwing down the gauntlet on the past 100 years of jazz singing while charting a path forward for the culture.

An accomplished jazz pianist, Zweifel has performed professionally in a wide variety of genres across Colorado as well as in tours around the US. Spencer graduated in 2019 with a degree in jazz studies from the University of Northern Colorado and won ‘Best pop/rock soloist’ in the 2018 Downbeat Magazine student awards. In 2021, Spencer completed a Master’s in jazz studies at William Paterson University, where he studied with Bill Charlap, Aaron Diehl, and Geoffrey Keezer.

Cuban-born pianist and composer HAROLD LÓPEZ-NUSSA begins an exciting new chapter of his fascinating career with his Blue Note debut Timba a la Americana, a vibrant album teeming with joy and pathos that was inspired by the pianist’s recent decision to leave his Cuban homeland and begin a new life in France. Produced by Snarky Puppy bandleader Michael League, Timba a la Americana unveils a brand-new sound across 10 dynamic original compositions performed by a tight-knit band featuring harmonica virtuoso Grégoire Maret, Luques Curtis on bass, Bárbaro “Machito” Crespo on congas, and Harold’s brother Ruy Adrián López-Nussa on drums.

Kid’s Matinee: Swallow Hill Presents: Matt Skellenger with Anthony ‘Medicine Man’ Aleman

Matt Skellenger(Mr. Matt) has been teaching early childhood music classes for over 20 years.
He combines high energy songs with interactive activities that get kids engaged and making music together. This performance will be a collaboration with Matt's longtime musical brother Anthony "Medicine" Aleman on the Harmonica and Vocals. The two have been performing together in the Denver/Metro area for over 15 years.

Same Cloth is a genre-bending, Denver-based, Black woman-led band that uses their peculiarities to share meaningful art. Same Cloth performs original music and creative cover arrangements that, along with JoFoKe's charisma and vocal stylings, are brought to life by Solomon Chapman on keyboards, Will Gaines on bass, Callum Bair & James Tré on guitar and Matt Campbell on drums.
