The Denver Jazz Orchestra is Denver’s premier big band featuring 18 of Denver’s top musicians. For more than 15 years, the DJO has excited jazz fans throughout Colorado with its original sound and team of committed jazz musicians. For this performance, the band will be performing a variety of songs pulled from the big band repertoire including swing, ballads, Latin and funk.

Shane is a founding member of the Grammy nominated group Kneebody. They have released ten recordings and have been playing premier festivals, concert halls, and clubs for over twenty years.

Deborah Stafford & The Night Stalkers bring the power and excitement of an 8-piece Horn-driven Funky Blues & Soul Band back to Dazzle. 2x winners Colorado Blues Society Blues Challenge, they made it to the semi-finals at the 2021 International Blues Challenge in Memphis and were a featured band at Blue on the Mesa. Their award-winning horn section featuring Doug Rasmussen, Tommy Van den Berg & Adisa Nickerson, soulful keyboards by Tone Show, hot guitar licks by Jeff Bowen (formerly of My Blue Sky), the smoldering vocals of Deborah Stafford and our 'in the pocket' drums and bass by Doug "JJ" Murphy and Bob Tiger make this band a step above the rest. Ben Parrish is a guitarist, composer, arranger and educator currently based in Denver, CO. Ben plays in several different groups, including internationally-renowned rock band Milquetoast and Company, Dart Echo, indie-rock sensation Amazing Adventures, Thunder Hill Jazz Band, and with RnB groups Unsus and SSIIGGHH.

Boulder-born, Denver-based multi-instrumentalist composer Sonya Walker began her relationship with the piano when she was 5. Originally classically trained, she discovered her love of Black American improvised music by teaching herself trumpet, and eventually transitioned to exploring that tradition on the piano.

Donny McCaslin is best known as the saxophonist on David Bowie’s last album, Blackstar. The noted composer and bandleader has released a dozen albums over his genre-defying, Grammy-nominated career.

McCaslin began playing at age 12, and as a teenager, performed in his vibraphonist father’s band in Santa Cruz. By high school, he had appeared multiple times at the Monterey Jazz Festival.

After attending Berklee College of Music on a full scholarship, McCaslin became a sought-after player in New York City. David Bowie saw McCaslin perform as soloist for the Maria Schneider Orchestra and brought in McCaslin’s progressive jazz quartet that came to define Blackstar’s visionary stylistic fusion. As David Hadju wrote in The Nation, “Donny McCaslin was David Bowie’s David Bowie.”

In turn, Bowie influenced McCaslin, who fused alt-rock and jazz on his first album with lyrics, 2018’s BLOW.
