Bassist Jason Malmberg and guitarist Matt Fuller realized they had both grown up in skate punk culture of the late 80s and early 90s. The two often wondered how they might be able to merge their love of the punk rock they grew up on with their passion for jazz. With the onset of the pandemic, working musicians found themselves with a lot more time on their hands. Jason saw the opportunity and began working on arrangements that would take some of the punk rock music of his childhood and set it in a modern jazz context.

Alex Heffron Quintet

The Quintet is a new project from Guitarist Alex Heffron. The new music fuses elements of Heffron’s past, present and future to create a fresh sonic experience. Alex’s music draws inspiration from all over, Jazz, Rock, Funk, Latin, even a little Metal. The new music has a strong focus on melody, with voices intertwining between the Tenor and Alto saxophone. The blend of these voices mixed with the trio of Guitar, Bass, and Drums, creates a wide open pallet which intrigues the ear. In this world of sonic possibilities, with bright energetic melodies, to solemn ballads, you won’t want to miss this show.

Ron Jolly Trio at Denver Press Club

The Ron Jolly Trio features Ron Bland on bass and Don Newby on drums. They have played together in many situations for more than 35 years.

The trio plays original music as well as standards, pop and jazz tunes. They are in demand for session work as well as for regular appearances in a variety of bands in Colorado and internationally.

Violinist Monique Brooks Roberts & Cellist Zach Brown come together for one night to play your favorite 90’s R&B tunes reimagined for violin and cello! Monique Brooks Roberts has had a busy and fulfilling career, having performed and recorded for many notable artists including Alicia Keys, Common, Aretha Franklin, and Jill Scott, just to name a few. A self-proclaimed soulful violinist, Monique pushes the envelope in her improvisational style infusing jazz, soul, and any genre of music that speaks to her. Zachary Brown is a NYC based cellist who is both classically and progressive/improvisation trained. Zach focuses on pushing the boundaries of progressive cello playing in his writing and collaborations. Performing at classical venues like Carnegie and Lincoln Center, he has also performed at Nublu 151 with The Turtle Island String Quartet.

The MJO is one of the area’s premier jazz orchestras, delighting audiences since 2002. Koki Renwick is a trumpet player from the Denver area. A recent Denver School of the Arts graduate, he has racked up a considerable resume, including Telluride Student All-Stars (2021, 2022), Colorado All-State Jazz Band (2020, 2021, 2022), Denver School of the Arts Jazz Workshop Orchestra, UNC Jazz Festival, Vail Jazz Festival, and more. Koki is excited to present originals and music from his heroes.

Coy Lim and her Halo-Halo Band are a Denver-based supergroup, led by creative nexus Coy Lim, with members from your favorite local bands. Coy’s compositions in her signature witch-jazz, funky neo soul style have enchanted audiences across the US, and her “mix-mix” approach to her lineup, from which Halo-Halo gets its name, ensures every show is a unique experience. They will be joined by People in Between for this special night who are an 8-piece Hip-Hop/R&B group led by Zoe Moff on Bass and Gab Zelek on Saxophone.

Same Cloth is a Denver-based project led by prolific keyboardist Solomon J. Chapman Sr. and inventive vocalist JoFoKe. Embarking upon a new musical journey, this charismatic duo combines their peculiarities to share meaningful art. Performing original music and creative cover arrangements, Same Cloth’s musical vision is intensified and rounded out by Will Gaines on bass, Callum Bair & James Tré on guitar and Matt Campbell on drums. As a unit, Same Cloth combines the diverse traditions of Black American Music to create an energetically eclectic and emotionally elevating live music experience.
