Natalie Cressman & Ian Faquini

Possessing a voice as cool and crystalline as an Alpine stream, Natalie Cressman is a rising singer/songwriter and trombonist who draws inspiration from a vast array of deep and powerful musical currents. She released her 5th album in April 2019, this time in collaboration with Brazilian composer, guitarist, and vocalist Ian Faquini. Drawing from impressionism, jazz, and the great Brazilian songwriting tradition, Setting Rays of Summer is a ten-track collection of original material featuring compositions in Portuguese, English, and French. With the warm instrumentation of acoustic guitar and trombone alongside two-part vocal harmonies hugging the Brazilian-accented Portuguese, Cressman & Faquini weave their musical voices together to create a fully orchestrated sound befitting a much larger ensemble.

The Denver Jazz Orchestra is Denver’s premier big band featuring 18 of Denver’s top musicians. For more than 15 years, the DJO has excited jazz fans throughout Colorado with its original sound and team of committed jazz musicians. For this performance, the band will be performing a variety of songs pulled from the big band repertoire including swing, ballads, latin and funk.

Paranoid Image is an exciting acoustic alternative fusion band based out of Denver, Colorado. PI is known for their driving and creative rhythms combined with beautiful and meaningful lyrics and music. Their (mostly!) acoustic instrumentation and percussion section create an original sound that is a cross-genre mix that results in an impressive and unpredictably eclectic performance.

Lead by drummer Kyle Borthick and his guitar playing son Ryan Borthick this high energy band guarantees a good time wherever they play! Merrian Johnson is a gem amongst Colorado vocalists. Her warm and sultry vocal style lights up audiences with dancing feet and smiling faces!

The Jacob Larson Band is a funk and soul ensemble combining powerhouse vocals, classic instrumentation and an old-school approach to music that just about everyone loves. Digging inspiration from the roots of soul religion, the band shares their own take on such notable influences as Tower of Power, Stevie Wonder, Sam Cooke and Earth, Wind, and Fire.

Jacob, a prodigious entertainer with a strong and soulful voice, leads the band with true dynamic flair and presence, delivering the goods with a performance that moves and excites concert-goers of all ages.

Jack Hadley Daybreak in Alabama” The Langston Hughes Project

Jack Hadley is a monster blues guitarist/singer with an amazing sum of influences: “North Mississippi drone blues-meets Jimi/BB/Albert/Curtis Mayfield/Marley filtered through- Haight Ashbury…” (Bob Lohr, producer, San Telmo Media). The Band will perform original music written by Jack Hadley from his latest release “Daybreak in Alabama- The Langston Hughes Project” and “The St. Louis Sessions.” Hadley wrote nine songs based on some of Hughes’ poems, changing his poetry into lyrics. Hughes wrote about his American experience as a Black man. These are poems based on universal themes- The Lord, History, Love, Redemption, and yes, Racism. Hadley amplifies his message through his music.

Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis

Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra is comprised of 15 of the finest jazz soloists and ensemble players existing today.

Under Music Director Wynton Marsalis, Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra performs a vast repertoire, from rare historic compositions to commissioned works, including compositions and arrangements by Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Fletcher Henderson, Thelonious Monk, Mary Lou Williams, Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Goodman, Charles Mingus, and many others.

A Benefit and Tribute to Al Hood ft. the H2 Jazztet and Friends

Join us for this benefit and tribute concert for Denver jazz staple Alan Hood. On January 27th, Al fell and hit his back and neck. He was instantly paralyzed from the neck down and was taken to the hospital to undergo his first cervical spinal surgery. The future is uncertain at this time, but we do know it will be a long and intensive recovery. Al is a longstanding member of the Denver jazz community, teaching trumpet at DU, co-leading the H2 Big Band and H2 Jazztet with Dave Hanson, and performing in a variety of other groups including the Ken Walker Sextet all over the Front Range. This concert is a celebration of his music featuring the H2 Jazztet and the rest of the H2 Big Band trumpet section. 100% of proceeds will be donated to his Go Fund Me campaign to support medical expenses.

Celebrating Black History Month
Special Guest Artist-Sheryl Renee. Purnell Steen and The Five Points Ambassadors (also known as LeJazz Machine) is a band dedicated to playing and preserving the music of Denver’s legendary Five Points neighborhood. The Blues-oriented Hard Bop music is basically Swing style. And Denver’s own scintillating Myra Warren rounds out the ensemble. For their annual show in Celebration of Black History Month, they will definitely Swing and Sway the Five Points Way, and, ever the storyteller, Purnell will share the histories of Black artists who have worked and played in Five Points.
