Vincent HerringJuly 8th and 9th - 7pm & 9:30pm Young composer and musician Rico Jones comes home to Denver, bringing along four highly acclaimed jazz stars from New York to play at Dazzle for three nights, July 7th (featuring local Denver Greats) 8th and 9th (Featuring the NYC band). With a quintet comprising both well-established and rising stars, Rico welcomes the chance to introduce Denver audiences to current trends in New York jazz while also introducing the NY artists to the burgeoning jazz scene here in Colorado.
Acclaimed Saxophonist Vincent Herring has appeared on recordings and live performances with Freddie Hubbard, Donald Byrd, Dizzy Gillespie, Louis Hayes, Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers, Horace Silver Quintet, Jack DeJohnette’s Special Edition, Larry Coryell, Steve Turre, The Mingus Big Band (Won a Grammy in 2010), Kenny Barron, Nancy Wilson, Dr. Billy Taylor, Carla Bley, Mike LeDonne, Carl Allen, Ron McClure, and John Hicks among others. | | | | Next Week at Dazzle at Baur’s | | H2 Big Band: A Message of Healing to Al HoodMonday, July 11th - 7pm This is H2 Big Band’s “Call to Health” for Al Hood and the Denver community, and the opening salvo in Dazzle’s Monday night large ensemble series. They will be playing arrangements and compositions of Dave Hanson’s that were written to feature Al, as well as great charts by Wil Swindler and Paul McKee. After Al Hood’s serious spinal injury earlier this year they’ve been going out of their way to keep Al’s situation front and center: his recovery is going to be a long haul, and he will need as much emotional and financial support as our community can make available to him. | | The Delta SonicsFriday, July 15th - 7pm The Delta Sonics music takes a Chicago Blues base and seasons it with Swing, Delta, N’awlins R&B and some early Rock n’ Roll . They were Westword’s best blues band in Denver the last six of eight years. The band made the semi-finals in the Memphis (International Blues Challenge) in 2012.
