| | The Roaring 21’s | Dear , Dazzle at Baur’s music showcases the best musicians from jazz to funk that the Denver metro area has to offer, with an occasional national act in the mix. We pride ourselves on offering both top, established musicians and giving young ones or new bands a stage on which to perform. After all, good music is good music. During the intensity of pandemic restrictions, Dazzle started live streaming shows to ensure that musicians still had a way to perform and earn a living. As we move into fall and away from those restrictions, we are working hard to create an music library with recordings of bands for archival purposes. Our YouTube channel already offers many great shows, usually ones in which the bands choose to sponsor the recording themselves. Now, we are adding certain shows that represent different aspects of the creativity that was cultivated during the pandemic restrictions. You can help us with this in two ways. First, subscribe to our YouTube channel so that you never miss a new show. Second, when you buy tickets to shows in September, you can add a donation to your purchase to support these recordings. It takes $450 to record and process one show, so donations of all sizes help. It has been great seeing all of you and we look forward to seeing more of you throughout the rest of the year. Take a look at our full calendar to plan a great night out. | | Dazzle Presents’ Live Streams | | Rich Chiaraluce Quintet: Cannonball Adderley Quintet Tribute You can watch this fabulous performance on our YouTube channel. | This month, we are highlighting a Live Stream with some of Denver’s best known jazz musicians. In this show, the Rich Chiaraluce Quintet features the music of the Cannonball Adderly Quintet. These are the same arrangements as played by that quintet. They span the time from the 1950s into the 1960s. There is also a discussion of certain selected tunes that propelled the Cannonball Adderly Quintet to fame. All the songs are swinging and have a groove to them. The musicians include Greg Gisbert (trumpet), Jeff Jenkins (piano), Ken Walker (bass), Todd Reid (drums), and, of course, Rich Chiaraluce (tenor saxophone). It was an exciting night of jazz at Dazzle @ Baur’s! Watch it on our YouTube channel and be sure to subscribe to receive updates when new Live Streams are published. | | Featured Musician: Ken Walker | | Arturo Gómez, Denver’s KUVO Music Director, interviews Ken Walker to celebrate his return to the state at Dazzle @ Baur’s. The Ken Walker Sextet returns to the stage at Dazzle @ Baur’s on the final Friday of each month. Click on the date to purchase tickets for the two upcoming shows on September 24th, October 29th, and November 26th or visit our website at www.DazzleDenver.com. Anyone who has seen Ken Walker perform knows that he projects with his bass and not his vocals, and the same is true for this interview. A transcript is available here. Ken and Arturo go back many years and share a love of the Denver jazz music scene. Arturo sums up the creative genius of the Ken Walker Sextet when he says, “that’s the greatness of jazz, even if the same band played the same song consecutively, it still wouldn’t sound the same.” Even though every member of the Ken Walker Sextet is a leader of their own respected band, when these six men get together, there is nothing like it. Pop Quiz: Answers are in the interview Where did Ken get his start in the Denver jazz music scene? Who says, “that’s what jazz is all about: jamming until the break of dawn”? How was the Ken Walker Sextet formed? What was the first instrument Ken played? How did Ken pay for college?

What Is Jazz? (Source: Jazz Times) Notable musicians consider an old question that warrants re-asking in the year 2021. This is a question we constantly discuss at Dazzle @ Baur’s. While our venue is a serious listening room, most nights, we believe that jazz can be experienced in a variety of ways, places, and musical styles.
