DCFS still struggles with high caseloads, understaffing

BY JESSICA WILLIAMS | Capitol News Bureau Editor

Child protection: The Department of Children and Family Services, tasked with stopping child abuse and neglect, still struggles with understaffing and high caseloads, Andrea Gallo reports. Many hope its new leader will turn things around.

NOLA pushes back: In Gov. Jeff Landry's special legislative session on crime, lawmakers are widely expected to pass bills allowing permitless concealed carry of handguns. But New Orleans officials say the move would worsen their city's crime problems, John Simerman reports.

New LGBTQ+ bills: Louisiana lawmakers tried and failed last year to stop talk of sexual orientation or gender identity in schools and stop LGBTQ+ students from using certain names or pronouns. But lawmakers will consider similar bills this spring, Patrick Wall reports.
