Dead, rotting fish cover beaches. And a delay in the $330M Avondale sale.

Dead, rotting fish: Thousands of dead fish, compliments of three separate fish spills, covered southwestern Louisiana beaches last week. Tristan Baurick writes about what the latest fish kill could mean for the menhaden industry.

No Avondale vote: The state Bond Commission was expected to weigh in this morning on the $330 million sale of the old Avondale shipyard to the Port of South Louisiana. But it didn’t happen, Sam Karlin reports.

Saving babies: More than a quarter of Louisiana’s parishes don’t have a doctor who provides obstetric care, and financial incentives haven’t done much to draw more physicians. Could programs to attract more nurse midwives be the answer, Andrea Gallo asks.

Jailhouse blues: Four supervisors recently walked off their shifts at the jail in New Orleans. The walkout came after a period of particular chaos inside the lockup, Missy Wilkinson and Gabriella Killett report.

One more thing: The Times-Picayune and NOLA.com has announced its endorsement for Louisiana's next governor, saying that "political polarization has grown too intense and destructive, across the country and in state capitals." Click here to see who and why.

Editors' note: No reporters or editors in The Times-Picayune newsroom or its Capitol News Bureau participate in any way in the endorsement process.

Thanks for taking some time with us today. If you aren't a subscriber, here's a great deal!
