Among UTIs acquired in the hospital, approximately 75% are CAUTIs, or associated with a urinary catheter. A CDC report also found that 56% of hospitals do not have a system for monitoring which patients have urinary catheters, and 74% do not even monitor catheter duration.
With the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) no longer reimbursing facilities for CAUTI treatment unless the infection is documented as present on admission, organizations are looking for ways to track catheter usage, ensure evidence-based nursing care is provided, and reduce their facility’s infection rates.
Though evidence-based best practices and guidelines, Preventing Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections, Second Edition will show readers how to build a prevention program to reduce CAUTIs, train nursing staff to properly monitor catheter usage, and ensure the facility receives the reimbursement it deserves. |
