Developers Announce Stratum v2 Update For Decentralized Bitcoin Mining

Developers of the Stratum v2 protocol have announced a new reference implementation (SRI) update that allows miners to select transactions via a new sub-protocol and their own node.

The update is aimed at decentralizing Bitcoin mining and democratizing transaction selections in pooled mining. The developers have invited miners, pools, firmware makers, and the community to test the new implementation using a getting started guide and provide feedback.

The Stratum v2 protocol ensures that transaction selection is done by miners themselves, rather than a handful of mining pools, which makes Bitcoin more prone to censorship. The update also aims to improve encryption, ensure compliance with the latest spec updates, and enable pools to perform spot-checks on block validity.
