Elote Man
Servando Mora, 84, was known in Santa Ana in the 1980s for selling fresh corn on the cob from his truck. The Riverside resident died of COVID-19 on Jan. 29, 2021.
Last month, after Servando Mora died of COVID-19, at age 84, his adult son, Adrian Mora, went on Facebook to ask if people remembered his father. Turns out many did. For decades, the elder Mora, a Riverside resident, was known as “Elote Man,” a guy who sold sweet and spicy corn on the cob, from his truck, in the parks and neighborhoods of Santa Ana. Read more
Coronavirus battle can last for months
Many recover from COVID-19 quickly, but an estimated 10% suffer longer-lasting consequences. Dubbed as “long-haulers,” some of these patients now face heart, lung or neurological problems. Doctors and researchers aren’t sure why, but are scrambling to find out. Read more

City treasurer targets Inglewood mayor
Wanda Brown alleges in a $10 million legal claim that Mayor James T. Butts Jr. and other officials ruined her reputation and humiliated her by slashing her nearly $100,000 salary to $16,850, stripping her of most of her duties and locking her out of City Hall because she complained about the city’s finances. Orange County DA’s official accused of harassment
Gary Logalbo was a high-ranking official in the Orange County District Attorney’s Office before he abruptly stepped down in January following accusations of sexual harassment and making racist comments lodged by female employees. Read more
Searching for trouble
Southern Californians searched for specific information about conspiracy theories, joining violent extremist groups and making explosives before and after the 2020 presidential election, a new report shows. Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties were among the top 15 for number of internet searches related to extremism, researchers found. Read more
