| Save the IMLS and Protect LSTA Funding |
|
Make no mistake about it, this is a critical time. As you are probably aware, the White House proposes to eliminate the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) from the federal budget and cut $187 million for the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA). “Dear Appropriator” letters are now circulating in the Senate. One letter was in support of LSTA funding, and another focused on preserving $27 million for the Innovative Approaches to Literacy (IAL) program. Action is needed now to inform Congress about the educational and economic value of libraries, and how eliminating federal funding negatively impacts all Americans.
| | Last month, similar advocacy efforts resulted in one-third of the House of Representatives signing in support of LSTA funding—an increase of 64% compared to prior budget cycles. Your call or email will make a difference. Join the fight to #saveIMLS and ensure funding is available to keep libraries right where they belong—as the fabric of the community.
