Nov. 17, 2021 Minnesota is getting emergency staffing assistance from the federal government, as many hospitals are at or near full capacity. The U.S. Department of Defense is sending out two emergency staffing teams to Minnesota to help to take care of patients with COVID-19 and other ailments. The teams each have 22 medical personnel and will be sent to HCMC in Minneapolis and St. Cloud Hospital. The state expects they'll arrive next week. As of Tuesday, 1,382 people are hospitalized in the state with COVID, which is the highest it has been all year. And 96 percent of the state’s ICU beds are currently in use. The state is also opening a third alternative care site, using bed space at Cerenity Senior Care Marian in St. Paul to provide transitional care for patients in hospital beds who no longer need acute care.
