Coming weeks after the Allied D-Day landing at Normandy, our July 1, 1944 edition included dozens of advertisements for military aircraft products, including the cover, which featured a pitch for Pratt & Whitney's new R-2800C engine, which powered the U.S. Army's Republic P-47 "Thunderbolt" high-altitude fighter.
