Good morning! Here are today’s temperatures: Logan: 27 - 38° ⛅ | 30% 💧 Salt Lake City: 33 - 44° ⛅ | 30% 💧 St. George: 43 - 52° 🌧️ | 80% 💧 Recently a friend of mine realized a subscription fee he hadn't known about was charging his credit card every month, resulting in nearly $250 of accumulated fees. These kinds of auto-renewal fees slip under the radar for many of us, but there is a Utah House bill trying to change that. Also on our mind: The former Salt Lake District Attorney who prosecuted Ted Bundy has died, why Gov. Cox wants Biden to tap the brakes on the EV transition and the story behind the demise of Sports Illustrated. |
| DEI debate comes to Utah Senate amid national controversy |
|
| | Utah senators and members of the public explored disagreements over a proposed overhaul of diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives in the state during an hours-long committee debate and public hearing on Monday. The bill in question, HB261, has advanced quickly through the legislature since lawmakers arrived at the state Capitol last week. After receiving approval in the House on Friday, the legislation received a 8-1 party-line endorsement from the Senate Education Committee Monday. Before the hearing, a few dozen opponents of the bill demonstrated at the Utah House and the University of Utah, where students spoke about how diversity, equity and inclusion offices help them feel safe and included. |

| Rep. John Curtis gestured to his staff to wrap up their introduction before stepping into the limelight himself. Without wasting a breath, the Utah representative dove right into the reason why roughly 350 people had gathered at a huge hall at a pest control company in Orem on Monday night: “My name is John Curtis, and I’m running for U.S. Senate,” he said as the crowd erupted in loud cheers. Curtis gave three reasons he thinks voters should support him, including his experience as a representative over the last six years, his congressional office team — who won constituent accountability and accessibility awards — and his Utah-centric approach to policy.
