Dennis Allen: Jon Gruden visit was 'really beneficial for our football team'

Good morning, and welcome to the Saints Insider newsletter for Wednesday, May 31, 2023.

The Saints had another open practice session and media availability at their offseason training activity (OTAs) workout on Tuesday. Head coach Dennis Allen, linebacker Demario Davis and quarterback Jameis Winston met the media for interview sessions.

Allen commented for the first time about the team's decision to bring former NFL head coach Jon Gruden to New Orleans to visit with the team and coaching staff last week. Allen said Gruden's two days at Saints camp were "really beneficial for our football team," Terrin Waack reports in her Takeaways from Saints OTAs report.

Winston visited with reporters for the first time since re-signing a restructured contract with the Saints this spring and said he is happy to serve in a supporting role as Derek Carr's backup. Columnist Rod Walker says Winston's humility shows in the way he has accepted his new spot on the roster.

In other news Tuesday, Saints general manager Mickey Loomis pledged to keep defensive end Cam Jordan around for the rest of his playing career so that he retires a Saint, during a recent radio interview. Rod Walker has the story.

Mandatory minicamp is scheduled for June 13-15.

That's all for today. Be sure to check out NOLA.com's Saints page for all the latest news and analysis.

Until next time, have a great day....
