| Good evening everyone, You can’t help but feel for all those young people who got their A level results last week. The Government’s u-turn in deciding to go back to teacher assessments is not really a fix for everyone, even if it is being seen as a victory by some. That’s because many universities had already offered places on the basis of initial results - and so their courses are now full. And in some cases, like medicine for instance, there is a Government cap on the number of places which can be given. It means that many will have to give up their hopes of becoming a doctor or take a year out and head off to medical school next year. While this is not the end of the world, it is a disappointment, particularly for those from under-performing state schools, whose pupils seem to have been hardest hit. All we can say is that if you can overcome this setback and make your dreams come true, it will stand you in good stead for whatever life throws at you in the future. The sad thing is it could all have been avoided with a little more thought of the consequences. Gillian Parkinson Editor |
