In addition to being an attorney, Brown is a former member of the Utah House, the former chairman of the Utah Republican party and worked for both Sen. Bob Bennett and Sen. Mike Lee. Former Gov. Gary Herbert will be the chairman of Brown's exploratory committee.  Herbert said that Brown is “well known for his commitment to conservative principles and his ability to inspire and unite.”

Gov. Cox appoints Stephen Nelson to Third District Court

Utah Gov. Spencer J. Cox has appointed Stephen Nelson to the Third District Court, replacing Judge Randall Skanchy’s vacancy. Nelson’s nomination requires confirmation by the Utah Senate. 

Nelson is currently an Assistant United States Attorney in the national security section of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah where he has worked since 2016. In this role, Nelson has prosecuted organized crime, violent crime and narcotics.  (Read More)


Utah Senate request public comment on 3rd District Court nominee

The Utah Senate Judicial Confirmation Committee is seeking public comment on Stephen Nelson, who Gov. Spencer J. Cox nominated to serve as a judge in the 3rd District Court.  

Utah Gov. Spencer J. Cox has appointed Stephen Nelson to the Third District Court, replacing Judge Randall N. Skanchy’s vacancy. Nelson’s nomination requires confirmation by the Utah Senate.

Support grows for Romney, Manchin’s Fiscal Stability Act

Support grew this week for the Fiscal Stability Act, bipartisan legislation introduced by U.S. Senators Mitt Romney (R-UT) and Joe Manchin (D-WV) to strengthen America’s fiscal health and stabilize our nation’s finances for future generations. The Fiscal Stability Act would create a bicameral fiscal commission tasked with finding legislative solutions to stabilize and decrease our national debt, which now exceeds $33.6 trillion—more than double what it was just 10 years ago.
