Derek Carr is excited about new offense. It's going to look, feel 'different'

Good morning, and welcome to the Thursday, April 25 edition of the Saints Insider newsletter.

Happy NFL Draft Day!

The hay is in the proverbial barn. Time for the Saints to make their selection in the 2024 NFL Draft.

'It's going to look different'

To say Saints quarterback Derek Carr is excited about the new offense being installed by first-year offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak would be an understatement. The perpetually optimistic Carr believes the new attack is "going to be great," beat writer Matt Paras reports. And it's going to look and feel different, Carr said.

The Drew and Derek Show

Carr spent five hours on Wednesday with Drew Brees, the most extensive period of time he's spent with the Saints legend. Brees and Carr teamed in the pro-am tournament at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, where they traded birdies, bogeys and barbs during their 18-hole round. My column on the pairing of the past and present Saints quarterbacks.

Hurst hangs it up

In a surprise move to everyone outside of team headquarters, Saints guard James Hurst announced Wednesday that he’s calling it a career after 10 seasons. Hurst, 32, had been with New Orleans for the last four years, starting in 51 of his 60 appearances. "I'm so grateful," the veteran lineman said.

And finally, I submitted my one and only mock draft for the Saints' 2024 NFL Draft. And in it, I have the Saints' doing some major wheeling and dealing after Round 1. Check it out: Saints 2024 Mock Draft.

Live from Airline Drive...

And don't forget. We'll be doing a live draft show that you can also tune in to on our YouTube channel. The show, hosted by our Zach Ewing, starts at 6. Don't forget to tune in, as our entire Saints coverage team will be making appearances throughout the night.

Until next time ...

Cheers,

Jeff Duncan
