Derek Carr is now a free agent. So what does that mean for the Saints?

Good morning, and welcome to the Saints Insider newsletter for Wednesday, Feb. 15.

Derek Carr is officially a free agent after the Las Vegas Raiders released him on Tuesday. So what does this mean for the New Orleans Saints' in their pursuit of the Pro Bowl quarterback? It's complicated, Luke Johnson reports.

In other non-quarterback news on Tuesday:

--The NFL planned to fine Dennis Allen $100,000 this season, but when the discipline was rescinded, the Saints head coach decided to divert the funds to a worth local cause. Luke Johnson on Allen's generous gesture.

--Cam Jordan's self-imposed social media hiatus didn't last long. The Pro Bowl defensive end took to Twitter Tuesday to recruit Carr, among others, and play offseason GM. As of publication Wednesday morning, we were still awaiting a response from the Saints' real general manager, Mickey Loomis.

That's all for today. Keep it locked and loaded to NOLA.com for all of our coverage of the Saints throughout the offseason as the team prepares for what should be a busy free agency period.

Until next time,

Jeff Duncan
