NEWSLETTER - Dec 2021

The year 2021 is ending, and what a year it has been!
Desert Pea Media has had our fair share of trials and tribulations over the past 12 months, and thanks to a long list of supporters, clients, sponsors and our incredible Staff and Board Members we have managed to pull through with some solid achievements and learnings.  2022 is shaping up to be a gamechanger.
Last week, the Desert Pea Media Board and Members met for our Annual General Meeting and approved DPM’s 2021 Annual Report - a fantastic representation of the past 12 months for DPM and our organisational journey through the ongoing implications of COVID 19.

Many organisations in our industry have had a difficult year, and we are no different - however we have managed to stay focus on the mission and deliver some solid outcomes for young people and communities around the country.  We’re not through it yet, but with the ongoing support of our community, we are looking forward to another 12 months of sharing and learning with you all.

Last week, the DPM Team wrapped up an incredible project with the Gumbaynggirr Community in Coffs Harbour.  Working with ETC – a local training and employment service we engaged a fantastic group of Elders, knowledge holders, young people, and community members to deliver a two-week DPM multimedia production.

The outcomes are an original song and music video and TWO short films due for release in February 2022.  Thanks so much to all the mob for an incredible experience on country.

In November 2021, the annual National Indigenous Music Awards were hosted on Triple J’s First Nations Show – ‘BlakOut’.  Two of the Desert Pea Media productions for the year were nominated in the ‘Community Music Clip of the Year’ Award.

  • Jabiru NT, 'Kakadu Collective - Mayali ft. Victor Rostron'
  • South West Rocks NSW, ‘Fig Tree Mob - Barrunba’

The song from Jabiru, NT - ‘Mayali’ took home the award for 2021!  That's the FIFTH consecutive win in that category for the DPM family and the incredible communities we work with!

Congrats to all the crew in Jabiru and family from around Kakadu - we're so proud of you mob.

Huge congrats to all the nominees and incredible Original Nations artists involved in the awards, and a massive thanks to Music NT and Triple J for hosting such an important award.

There has never been a more valuable time to support the work of NFP’s and charity organisations in Australia.  Our new website offers a new, and exciting way for the DPM fam to contribute to our work with Original Nations young people in an authentic and impactful way.

‘DPM Connect’ is a new network for supporters and collaborators to directly uplift Desert Pea Media’s work.

For Individuals:  A monthly donation campaign is a new opportunity to become part of the DPM Connect network, and receive exclusive updates, PR and marketing resources, and exclusive pre-release screenings of our media and music outcomes.

For Businesses: A one-off or monthly donation campaign is a new opportunity to become part of the DPM Connect network, and receive exclusive updates, PR and marketing resources, and exclusive pre-release screenings of our media and music outcomes.

This is a new way to connect directly with DPM and support the projects in communities we work with.

All donations are 100% tax deductible and go directly to creating opportunities for Original Nations young people to connect with community, culture, country, and creativity.

As we mentioned - 2021 was difficult for DPM - with the realities of COVID-19 outbreaks causing several major postponements and project cancellations, which have all been very difficult to manage for a small organisation like ours. That being said – in the first half of 2022 the DPM Team have a very rare window of availability for community projects of all shapes and sizes.
