dear designboom reader,
sculptures can play with the viewers’ perceptions of materials and space. if they look close enough, they may note the underlying biblical references in anselm kiefer’s latest major work created for the renaissance courtyard of palazzo strozzi. they can also experience the illusion of weightlessness, at least inside ARKEN museum, where anish kapoor's works are on display.
when sculptures take on different forms and sizes, they may become functional or reminiscent of certain memories. in such cases, wearable and fluttering kinetic butterflies might complete a couture dress, just like iris van herpen’s. drawings from childhood can suddenly spring into their 3D forms too, the way petrit halilaj's doodle sculptures came to life.
thanks for reading!
