dear designboom reader,
photographers succeed in capturing what makes a landscape distinctive. take rajesh vora’s exhibition at the recent rencontres d’arles festival where he documents the rooftop sculptures on some houses in punjab, from airplanes to liquor bottles. out of this scenery, george byrne evokes magical realism in his photographs that lean towards pastel, lucid dreamscapes.
when images are printed in books, viewers can treasure them at home such as zupagrafika’s kiosk, a visual anthology of over 150 modernist booths found in central and eastern europe, the last ones of their kind. the monograph ‘brutalist plants’ might be tucked in the shelves too, a pictorial compendium of concrete structures living among the vibrant ecology.
thanks for reading!
