the scope of modular design can extend to technology and architecture. it’s no longer just about stackable steel parts or adaptable foam seating. designers can also think of a smartphone design where the rear parts are made up of swappable modules.
architects may even find configurable parts ideal as they develop homes outside of earth, like HASSELL’s lunar habitat and its building blocks that are assembled one by one. it's also modular design that has helped MIT's teams devise a shelter that self-assembles on the moon.
