technology as exciting as concept cars are, often the reality is that their designs or features either never come into production or filter into the market many years later. BMW has always been different in this sense, just take the concept 8 series, Z4 and X7 for example. and, even more so, the BMW vision iNEXT is also different. it not only reflects the new challenges facing automotive design such as the changing ideas of personal mobility, but does so with a unique, ground-breaking design that will be in production in 2021. shown at the LA auto show 2018, the concept might be futuristic but, in reality, we will see it on our streets very soon. exploring the design itself, as well as how its overall experience creates a new favorite space, adrian van hooydonk, BMW group’s VP of design, details the concept to designboom. |

readers global architecture practice kohn pedersen fox (KPF) revealed its design of the mixed-use complex, ‘huamu lot 10’, for a site in shanghai, china. the design aims to create a sustainable urban environment that welcomes visitors to experience nature and art in an active setting, establishing a new form of urbanism. the design principal, jeffery a. kenoff, defines the project as ‘an integrated place of culture and commerce.’ in other news from our readers this week, yong ju lee architecture and atelier kj have collaborated to create ‘elusive boundary’ for the korean pavilion at expo 2020 dubai. the concept is based on the idea of boundaries, but instead of the traditional notion of a boundary being a line or surface for separation, this project proposes it as a space for creation. the explosive form of the design represents this idea of movement and expansion between territories no longer being linear, but a simultaneous event. |
