architecture since the fire that ravaged paris’ notre dame cathedral, more than $1 billion has been pledged for its repair — a figure that some say is already more than enough to pay for its restoration. now, amsterdam-based design firm studio drift is calling for more donations, but this time in the form of sustainable ideas. to kick off the initiative, studio drift has outlined its own proposal, which would see the building’s roof reconstructed using plastic recycled from the ocean. meanwhile, italian studio architrend architecture completed 'house B' in the seaside town of st. julian’s, malta. the residence is built out of reinforced concrete, while its front elevation incorporates a glazed façade which allows it to stand out from the traditional buildings that surround it. the see-through quality is further enhanced in the swimming pool on the residence’s rooftop, which comprises a glass bottom and walls. |

design during milan design week 2019, NIKE partnered with visionary designer heron preston as part of its ongoing celebration of air innovation for a special collaboration inspired by two iconic air max designs. the event hosted the exclusive worldwide pre-launch of nike air max 720/95 heron preston by you, giving access to a few in advance to customize the product. with it, the giant sports brand also announced that nike by you will undergo a transformation — out with the old (the traditional NIKE iD experience) and in with the new, a refreshed builder designed to give personalization a more fluid feel. designboom attended the special pop-up, customization experience and workshop with heron preston himself and had the chance to design a signature nike heron preston air max silhouette ignited by the brand new air max 720 and historic air max 95. |

technology first teased back in june 2018, elon musk has only shared one image of the long-awaited tesla pickup truck to date, which will eventually be named the ‘model P’ when launched. in the time since, istanbul-based designer emre husmen has conceived his own concept of this upcoming vehicle. the design not only adopts the sleek, futuristic form renowned for the brand but also makes the truck look as powerful and rugged as you would expect from an off-roader and utility vehicle. also this week, the possibility of engineering new hearts for transplants has grown more likely after researchers unveiled a 3D printed heart using human cells. it took a team at the tel aviv university only three hours to print the organ, which includes all blood vessels, ventricles and chambers. |

readers ‘stella fiore’ has been developed by designboom readers IROJE KHM architects in an effort to provide a tranquil escape from the busy urban environment of south korea. situated within a small town in the ilsandong-gu district, and using bold colors and geometry, the overall scheme comprises of 19 townhouses built on a hillside. the concept revolves around the idea of forming ‘architectural stars’ which are shaped by the space requirements of the brief. meanwhile, 'viral' is the latest collection from tel-aviv based designer, tal batit, that intends to depict our ‘pop-trash’ culture on a series of ceramic vases. the concept behind the project imagines how our culture and society will be remembered and commemorated in thousands of years to come. batit has employed a ‘primitive’ technique of relief carving on ceramic pots to present so-called ‘viral’ events that have occurred in the generation of social media. |
