THEASTER GATES IS THE FIRST NON-ARCHITECT TO DESIGN A SERPENTINE PAVILION chicago-based artist theaster gates has designed the 21st serpentine pavilion as a space for gathering, meditation and participation, with an emphasis on sacred music. titled 'black chapel', the temporary pavilion opened to the public in london's hyde park last friday, offering a platform for serpentine galleries’ live program throughout the summer and beyond.
