By KELLY P. KISSEL | Metro editor Ten days after a caller warned state social workers about a child in danger, the child died from fentanyl. The East Baton Rouge Parish coroner said Friday that the 20-month-old died from "acute fentanyl toxicity." A caller had warned state officials on Oct. 21 that the child's mother and grandmother were using drugs and "y'all need to just go out there before another child dies." Another child had died from fentanyl in Baton Rouge in June, also after the state had been notified about danger. East Baton Rouge's Metro Council is trying to review operations at the local bus system, but says the CATS board is "hiding." It might take court action for Council members to complete their work. Bogalusa police are looking for three people in connection with a fatal shooting last month near the local high school football stadium. The violence in the Washington Parish community prompted Albany High to forfeit tonight's football game. Arrest warrants name three people. |
