Details on new LSU assistant's contract

Greetings from Greenville, South Carolina.

The LSU women’s basketball team is playing in the Palmetto State for the third time this season, getting ready for their Sweet 16 matchup Friday with Utah in the NCAA Greenville 2 Regional semifinals.

More on those Tigers in a paragraph or two. We’ll lead off with contract details for LSU’s new special teams coordinator, John Jancek. Jancek, who replaces Brian Polian running special teams (Polian is now in a general manager-type role), will also coach outside linebackers.

Sad news to report on popular former LSU tight end Foster Moreau. The popular ex-Tiger announced Wednesday on social media that he was diagnosed with Hogkin’s lymphoma during a physical with the Saints, which will force him to step away from his NFL career. I’m sure you all join with us at The Advocate/The Times-Picayune in wishing Foster a speedy and complete recovery.

The transfer portal in basketball opened March 13 but had been quiet for the LSU men’s team — until Wednesday. Three Tigers, including guard Juice Hill, have now entered the portal. Our Sheldon Mickles has the details.

Back to women’ s basketball. The Tigers left for Greenville on Wednesday afternoon to a big sendoff at a pep rally outside Tiger Stadium. It was a colorful crowd, as you can see from our photo gallery, all hoping LSU will have another pep rally next week to send the Tigers off to the Women’s Final Four in Dallas.

LSU will be taking on Utah at 4 p.m. CDT Friday in Greenville, the game on ESPN. The rise in sports betting has also seen a rise in betting on the NCAA women’s tournament, and we’ve got some Sweet 16 details for you here. The Tigers, by the way, are a 5-point choice over the Utes, per Caesars.

Finally, some golf news: former LSU All-American Sam Burns and two-time Zurich Classic of New Orleans champion Billy Horschel are teaming up again in this year’s tournament, the Zurich announced Wednesday. This year’s Zurich Classic is set for April 20-23.

That’s all for now. We’ll have much more content for you from Greenville on Friday and the rest of the sports scene, so please keep reading.

Until then,

Scott Rabalais
