Déjà Vu? Bibi Plans His Return

pic

For the fifth time in four years, Israeli voters headed to the polls. A record number of voters cast their ballots and exit polling has declared Bibi Netanyahu as the projected winner. Poised to lead over the most right-wing parliament in its government's history, Israel's longest-serving Prime Minister urged his supporters to have patience, and said his Likud Party was “on the verge of a very big victory.”

After the votes are verified, it could still take months to form a working Israeli government. Election outcomes would also  be greatly impacted if Balad, a small Arab party, climbs over the threshold for entry into parliament. This would mean a redistribution of seats that could potentially thwart Netanyahu. Israelis will have to rely on the skill they've honed the past few years: Hope. Wait. And see.

Israel Creates Unique Medical Evaluation Tool

Kahun, an Israeli tech company, has developed a tool that has been called “a medical revolution.” Launched in 2018 by Dr. Michal Tzuchman-Katz and hi-tech entrepreneurs Tal Goldberg and Eitan Ron, Kahun’s latest contribution is poised to transform medical decision-making. No matter how skilled a physician is, precious time is often wasted on missed information, and immeasurable symptom checking. This resourceful app changes all that. Beginning the assessment, a chatbot conducts a thorough patient interview before meeting the doctor. The algorithm recalculates and cross-checks as the patient answers. Insights are added and referenced with each question. A relevant diagnosis overview is then sent to the patient's doctor. Eitan Ron, CEO of Kahun, stated that recent expanded funding allows his company to make this most extensive, life-saving tool accessible to more doctors worldwide.

Shark Week Returns: Divers Meet Danger in Hadera

pic

Every year, between November and April, Israel’s Nature and Parks Authority warns Israeli swimmers not to dive in certain areas off the Hadera coast. If they do, they may not make it safely back to shore. Yes, the water is beautiful in Hadera. But the school’s are out -- quite literally -- with a class full of dangerous sharks. Several dozen sharks have been spotted lingering near Hadera.

The Parks Authority also sends out warnings about feeding or interacting with the species in any way. It has been documented that feeding the sharks can disrupt their natural way of life and may create a connection for them between humans and food. So to keep everyone safe, from the bullhead sharks to the backstrokers, the message is clear: Stay away.

Volunteer Spotlight

Yigal - יגאל

As a soldier in the IDF, I spend every single day putting my life on the line defending my people. But, whenever I get the chance to do a little more to help those in need, I take it.

That’s why I spend my vacation days dedicating my time to volunteering with Feed Israel, helping distribute food to coronavirus patients, and individuals stuck in quarantine.
