I had a conversation last week with someone who commented how grateful they were that they didn’t have to dress the way people did back in the 1840s–60s. After all, with this heat, it must have been boiling! I surprised her by telling her that it might actually have been more comfortable than what we wear now (as confirmed by this professional historical reenactor). Apparently, wearing natural fibers like cotton and linen and covering your skin from direct sunlight can keep you cool during the hot summer months!
With Pioneer Day coming up and all of these excessive heat warnings, it sort of makes me want to sew this dress for the occasion even though it’s well above my skill level. 😅
I still want to hear from you: Do you have any pioneer stories? Even if your ancestors didn't cross the plains, reply to this email with stories about your family, ancestors or even yourself. I’ll include a few in the email this week.
Also on our minds today: Utah might be waiting a while to host another Olympic Games, Skittles might be toxic you and brain-eating amoebas are a real thing. Classic 2022, amiright?
