Winter weather watch: We all see the little snowflake icon on our weather apps for next week. (C'mon, you know you've been checking.) The folks in charge of the area’s highways say they're watching weather forecasts and have started planning for a possible wintry mix next week — just in case.
Homeland Security questions: As the state and city work out security plans for Carnival and the upcoming Super Bowl in New Orleans, Gov. Jeff Landry is urging the U.S. Senate to quickly confirm President-elect Donald Trump’s Homeland Security nominee, Mark Ballard writes. “The game is on the line, and we don’t know who the starting quarterback is going to be,” Landry said.
UNO budget woes: The University of New Orleans has a $10 million hole in its budget. The university said Thursday hundreds of workers will face furloughs in a cost-cutting move, Marie Fazio reports.
