No time like the present: Time crystals baffle scientistsHave you ever heard of time crystals? No, they’re not a sci-fi concept or magical items from Dungeons and Dragons. Instead, time crystals are a newly discovered form of matter. In nature, ordinary crystals have atoms inside that repeat in a predictable grid-like pattern across space. But time crystals have atoms that repeat their structure through time instead. If this is making your head hurt, you’re not alone — but even weirder than how the crystals exist is how they react. If you were to physically tap a time crystal, you might not notice it move right away. Eventually, it would suddenly react like you had touched it, and then repeat itself again and again forever. So far, we’ve only seen time crystals form when gasses like helium are brought to extremely low temperatures like negative 459.67. So if you were hoping to get your loved one a time crystal ring, you might have to wait an eternity. Did you know time travel is technically possible? One man has done it, and you won’t believe how. Tap or click here to see how you can travel into the future. → |
