A few days ago, I mentioned how the price of turkey had gone through the roof, and I asked you what alternatives you were planning on. You guys delivered! Here’s what you suggested:
John Clark said he was raised vegetarian, so they didn’t have the standard turkey dinner for Thanksgiving. Instead, his family would do tacos which they would load up with pinto beans, chopped tomatoes, olives, cheese and salsa. They lived in San Diego and would go down to Tijuana because, according to him, “what was in the stores at the time were these horrible ’shell’ tacos, which no one in Mexico ever heard of.” As a soft-shell taco fan myself, I totally agree.
Nancy Call suggested “a lovely cheese ravioli with marinara, veggies, salad, delicious bread, and ice cream pie.” I’m drooling at the description of that. YUM.
Leah Robinson replied and said that she was going to try something sweeter. She sent me a Pinterest-worthy photo of chocolate-dipped strawberries with chocolate covered pretzels on the sides to make them look like roasted turkeys.
I’d be honored to be invited to any of your homes for Thanksgiving. 😋
See flashing lights on the freeway? Slow down and move over, UHP pleads
According to Justin Koyle, a member of the Utah Department of Transportation's Incident Management Team, it’s not a matter of “if” he or his colleagues are going to get hit by a car — it’s when. He was hit while waiting for support from a UHP officer Wednesday morning for the second time in his career. Fortunately, he was in his truck, but he said, "I did feel the impact. It was a pretty hard hit.”
Coincidentally, this happened right before UDOT, UHP and other departments were due to have a press conference to encourage drivers to slow down. Utah has a “Move Over” law, which requires drivers to move over to the adjacent lane if an emergency vehicle is approaching.
The U.S. Senate signaled support for the the Respect for Marriage Act that provides protections for same-sex couples after an amended version including religious freedom protections was included. Sen. Mitt Romney and 12 other Republican senators voted in support of the amended measure, while Sen. Mike Lee did not.
The Respect for Marriage Act would ensure recognition on a federal level of same-sex marriages in states where they are legal but does not require states to recognize same-sex marriages from other states.
Republicans said an earlier version of the bill lacked religious liberty protections, but proponents of the Senate’s new version say it would explicitly protect people of faith and faith-based non-profits.
