Hello reader, Wow, we can’t believe how many of you have already shown your generous support for DeSmog! But for those who missed our email (below): Together, we’re building journalism powered by people, not corporations. Thank you. Brendan and the whole team at DeSmog Dear reader, Last year, as millions of people around the world courageously took to the streets to remind us that solving the climate crisis means tackling racial inequality too, we listened. And we remain committed to addressing this challenge in all the work that we do. And there’s so much more to do! Your support will help us continue to tell the stories of frontline communities, those hit hardest by the climate crisis and the fossil fuel industry’s pollution and economic decline, who are disproportionately people of color and low income, and who are fighting back to protect their health and future. From Louisiana’s Cancer Alley battles to Indigenous- and youth-led protests in DC and around the world, DeSmog is committed to amplifying under-represented voices and exposing environmental racism and the legacy of fossil fuels. Your donations help fund our reporters and photographers who shine a light on these injustices, like the work of multimedia reporter Julie Dermanksy. Her reporting on the hardships coastal tribes in Louisiana were facing with housing following Hurricane Ida directly led to the Thanksgiving delivery of an emergency RV to Traditional Chief Shirell Parfait-Dardar, whose home 70 miles southwest of New Orleans was totaled during the climate-fueled Category 4 storm.
If you’ve already donated, we are so grateful for your generosity and hope you’ll encourage your friends, family, and colleagues to do the same. Thank you, Brendan DeMelle Executive Director P.S. Will you support more fearless DeSmog journalism by donating whatever you can right now?
