Sepsis continues to be one of the most common conditions sparking physician queries for CDI professionals. It causes nearly 300,000 deaths annually, and its conflicting clinical criteria, confusing coding instructions, and convoluted CMS regulations make capturing sepsis documentation critical. Furthermore, throughout 2020, COVID-19 patients have experienced an immune response called cytokine storm, which in turn may lead to sepsis. So, how should CDI professionals be differentiating sepsis from a regular infection? The whole conflict boils down to this fundamental issue. During this program, ACDIS Regulatory Committee member and renowned speaker Cesar Limjoco, MD, will walk participants through the various definitions of sepsis and help them create a plan for effective and compliant query practices. |
