Welcome to the 606th Digital Photography Review newsletter.

Just when we thought Sony was done releasing camera for the year, they've gone and surprised us with a new flagship compact and two FE lenses. You'll find full launch content in the links below. We've also been busy shooting with the Nikon D5, and some of our initial studio tests have been a little surprising. We'll have a real-world gallery published very soon, so keep your eye out for that.

OK, let's have a look at some recent content highlights!

Sony Cyber-shot RX10 III launch

Sony has unveiled the Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 III, surpassing the zoom range of its predecessor with a 24-600mm equiv. F2.4-4 lens. The camera uses the same 1"-type stacked CMOS sensor which produces 20MP stills as well as 4K/UHD video. The RX10 II was announced alongide two new FE-mount lenses. The 80D sports a brand new 24MP APS-C sensor, a 3" articulating touchscreen, a new 45-point AF system (with dual pixel AF) and 1080/60p video capture capabilities. We've been shooting with it for a few days and have put together some first impressions.

When the Nikon D5 arrived in our office on Friday we immediately wanted to answer a few questions: How is the low light performance? How good is the autofocus? How is the Raw dynamic range? We've found that while the D5's sensor is clearly optimised for low-light image making, it represents a rather surprising - and disappointing - step backwards in terms of base ISO dynamic range.
