Welcome to the 793rd DPReview Newsletter

Well, welcome to 2020. There's snow in the air here in Seattle, which is probably why Barney still can't get a flight back from CES. Thankfully there are plenty of us in the office, huddled around the warmth of our monitors, bringing you all the latest news and technical findings. It already looks set to be an interesting year...

Canon announces EOS-1D X Mark III

The 1D cameras are designed for such a specific task that they tend not to offer too many surprises: faster shooting and predictable ergonomics are the usual combination. But the 1D X Mark III goes some way beyond this. Yes, it shoots faster and has AI-trained AF algorithms but flip the mirror up and you essentially get what promises to be a pro-sports mirrorless camera. You also get some of the best video spec we've ever seen, a surprising change to the ergonomics and the adoption of what could be the future of digital photo output: 10-bit HEIF images.
