My wife has been following news about the Coronavirus for two months. Back before stories about the virus dominated the headlines, she was digging into the reports of a novel disease emerging in western China. “This could be bad,” she told me. I was a little dismissive; the threat seemed so far away, but she was insistent. “I think we need to prepare.”
We still don’t know if the Coronavirus will become a pandemic, but the CDC is now echoing my wife’s advice: “We need to prepare.” That’s good advice whether you’re talking about a possible pandemic, an earthquake, a live shooter, or any other emergency.
And it’s especially true for churches: We need to prepare for all kinds of emergency scenarios. This week we’re featuring resources designed to help you make sure your church is ready. Disaster and Emergency Readiness includes emergency procedures, a family disaster checklist, emergency preparedness forms, and even pray services and litany for a disaster. Also, check out Responding to a Crisis. This resource provides wisdom on how to shepherd people in times of trauma and loss.
