| A stroke of genius | | From Florence Nightingale to Leonardo da Vinci, learn about history’s extraordinary innovators at the British Library | Intrigued by history’s great thinkers? Want to get to grips with the evolution of writing? You might not be able to travel back in time, but the British Library has got the next best thing – two exhibitions that celebrate incredible works by equally astonishing innovators.
Writing: Making Your Mark explores the origins of writing and follows centuries of human innovation. From note-taking to 21st century digital devices, this interactive exhibition will let you get up close and personal with James Joyce’s collection of notes for ‘Ulysses’, Florence Nightingale’s notebooks and typography by the Russian artist El Lissitzky. Plus, you’ll also get to discover more about Mozart’s spectacular compositions and Alexander Fleming’s ‘eureka!’ moment.
But not only that, the British Library is hosting a second, landmark exhibition this summer. Since it’s the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci’s death, you’ll also get a chance to pore over the incredible notebooks of this artist, inventor and all-round genius at Leonardo da Vinci: A Mind in Motion.
Ready to pique your curiosity? Writing: Making Your Mark runs until August 27 and Leonardo da Vinci: A Mind in Motion, opens on June 7. Bag tickets now. | |
