Hobbies are a great way to decompress from the demands of our work life, according to our Leadership & Development story today. They can reduce stress, stave off burnout and boost creativity.

My sister manages a high-end retail store on Oahu. She loves it but it’s demanding work. One way she tackles the stress is by upcycling found treasures. She turned a manhole ladder she found by the side of the road into a blanket ladder. A pub chair she rescued from a thrift store -- for $25 -- became a side table. And a yellow pareau she got at Savers was twisted and tied into a gorgeous top for our brother’s wedding.

Hobbies are a breath of fresh air. They let us stretch and loosen up creative muscle. They energize us. We knock the cobwebs off our brains and put our hands to new work. It’s fun. It feels good. It is good.

How do you spend your off hours? What hobbies keep you balanced? Let me know! And if you enjoy this brief, tell others so they can benefit also.
