Diverse L.A.-area neighborhood Altadena mourns loss of history and culture

The Eaton Fire leveled Altadena, a diverse enclave with a flourishing art community 14 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles. Families of color make up over half of the neighborhood, with the Black homeownership rate exceeding 80% — almost double the national rate. Many of those homes burned down.
